This torrid weather was forecast to stay. Hiking in this kind of weather is hard work and when your there for the view of the spectacular Cerro Fitzroy and your head is in the looming clouds, hiking suddenly becomes pointless. We had a decision to make: would we stick it out for a few days or leave to fresh pastures and potentially better weather. Our decision was to leave for El Calafate, the weather forecast was better and we didn’t have time to hang around for 2-3 days after the slow moving days of the Carreterra Austral. Leaving on the bus we couldn’t help question whether we had made the right decision. As a teaser the sun popped its head out as the bus sped down the newly paved road.
We delayed our trip up to the glacier a day to wait for better weather which was forecast, however this never materialized, to our dismay the day wasted waiting for good weather turned out better. Nonetheless in good spirits and excited to see the glacier we embarked on the one hour bus journey with a full day of ice watching in store.
Los Glaciares is must see on the Patagonian Circuit. One day when we return, hopefully the weather we play nice so we can see Fitzroy Mountain in all it’s glory!
